Searching Hamilton County Court Records
These questions cover the basics of finding a case online and getting an official copy.
How do I search Hamilton County court records online?
Use Indiana MyCase at mycase.in.gov. The county Courts, Clerk, Prosecutor, and Sheriff pages all point there for non-confidential cases. Search by name, cause number, or citation number, then narrow to Hamilton County. For the full walkthrough and search fields, see the Hamilton County court records page.
Is MyCase the official court record?
No. MyCase is a public-access portal, not the official file. Its terms say the data can carry errors, omissions, or restricted information. Official records come from the court or the Clerk that maintains them. A printout of a MyCase page is not a certified copy, so use the Hamilton County Clerk for anything official.
Where is the Hamilton County Clerk located?
The Clerk's Office is at 1 Hamilton County Square, Suite 106, Noblesville, IN 46060. The phone is 317-776-9629. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and court filing hours end at 4 p.m. The current Clerk is Kathy Kreag Williams. More is on the Clerk page.
What is a court docket?
In Indiana, the docket is the Chronological Case Summary, a dated list of every filing and order in a case. It is not the documents themselves, just the index of events. You can read it in MyCase. The court dockets page explains how to read each entry.
Hamilton County Jail and Inmate Questions
These cover finding inmates, contacting them, and tracking a release.
How do I find a Hamilton County inmate?
Use the county's current inmate lookup. Search by name, subject number, booking number, custody status, or booking date. Results show a photo, name, subject number, scheduled release date, and gender, and the profile adds bonds, charges, and court dates. See the inmate records page for the full field list.
Does Hamilton County publish a released-inmates list?
No separate released list was found. The current search has an "In Custody" box, and profiles carry a release date field. Because the data may not be current, call the jail at 317-776-9800 to confirm. The released inmates page covers VINELink and state and federal locators.
How do I put money on an inmate account?
Deposit online or at a kiosk in the jail lobby with cash or a credit card, using the inmate's prisoner identification number. The county no longer takes money at the window, and cash or money orders cannot be mailed. The inmate records page has the commissary details.
How do I search a state or federal inmate?
Use the Indiana Department of Correction search for state prison, by name or DOC number. Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for federal custody. Neither appears on the county jail roster. Both are linked from the released inmates page.
The county protective-orders FAQ, shown below, helps with related custody and safety questions.

It explains the difference between a civil protective order and a criminal no-contact order.
Warrants and Criminal Case Questions
These cover warrants, charges, and what happens if you miss court.
How do I verify an active warrant?
Call the Sheriff at 317-773-1872 during business hours or 317-776-9800 after hours. No official online active-warrant search was found in the county sources. Search MyCase for the underlying case, but do not rely on third-party warrant sites. See the warrant search page.
Is a tax warrant an arrest warrant?
No. A tax warrant is a collection process for delinquent state taxes, not an arrest order. Tax warrants come as written letters, never threatening phone calls. If you get a phone threat, hang up and verify with the Department of Revenue or the Sheriff. The warrant search page explains tax warrants.
Can the Prosecutor drop charges if I ask?
No. Once a report leads to arrest and charges, the case belongs to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. A victim or witness can submit a written statement explaining why they want charges dropped, but the prosecutor decides whether to proceed. The arrest records page covers the prosecutor's role.
What if I miss court?
Missing court can lead to a bench warrant, a failure-to-appear entry, bond revocation, a default judgment, or license consequences. Search MyCase right away, call the court listed on the case, and contact an attorney if a warrant is possible. See warrant records.
The prosecutor FAQ page, shown below, answers questions on charges and no-contact orders.

It is a good source for victim and witness questions.
Marriage, Divorce, and Probate Questions
These cover licenses, decrees, and estate records.
How do I apply for a marriage license in Hamilton County?
Complete the online application request, schedule an appointment, attend with both applicants, sign the application, and receive the license. Applications are by appointment only, virtual or in person. The license is valid 60 days, and the officiant returns it within 30 days. See marriage and divorce records.
What does a marriage license cost?
Hamilton County lists $25 for Indiana residents and $65 for out-of-state residents, each including two certified copies. Out-of-state licenses are valid only for ceremonies in Hamilton County. Confirm payment details with the Clerk. The marriage and divorce page has the fee table.
How do I get a divorce record?
Search the divorce case in MyCase if it is non-confidential, then request copies from the Clerk. The Clerk provides divorce documents through the record request process. A MyCase printout is not a certified copy. See divorce records.
How do I search probate records?
Search non-confidential probate dockets in MyCase by name or cause number, then request copies from the Clerk. Hamilton County handles probate within the Circuit and Superior Courts under local rules. Adoption and minor information is restricted. See the probate records page.
Help and Confidential Records Questions
These cover legal help and what stays private.
Can the Clerk give me legal advice?
No. Clerk staff cannot give legal advice. For help selecting forms and understanding filing steps, contact the Legal Self-Help Center if you qualify, or consult an attorney. Court staff can give procedural information, not strategy. The Clerk page explains what staff can and cannot do.
What records are confidential?
Juvenile records, adoptions, sealed or expunged criminal files, mental-health proceedings, some protective-order details, grand-jury materials, and personal identifiers are restricted. A missing MyCase result does not prove no case exists. See court records for the access framework.
How do I request a public defender?
File the Affidavit of Indigency and Request for Appointment of Counsel in the court handling your criminal case. Appointment depends on financial eligibility and court approval. Do not ask the Prosecutor for defense help. The arrest records page covers the criminal process.
How do I find legal aid?
Start with the Hamilton County Legal Self-Help Center for procedural help if you qualify. The county also lists Indiana Legal Services, the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society, and Legal Aid of East Central Indiana. The released inmates page lists several with contact details.
Juvenile records are governed by the statute shown below.

Civil protection orders follow their own chapter, shown below.

Read the protection-order chapter at Indiana Code 34-26-5.
